Environment and Climate change/Sanitation
Youth for Change and Development (YCD) actively addresses environmental protection, climate change, and sanitation by promoting sustainable practices and community engagement. The organization raises awareness about the impacts of climate change and equips communities, especially youth, with the knowledge and tools to adopt eco-friendly practices. YCD implements tree-planting campaigns, promotes waste management through recycling and composting initiatives, and advocates for the use of renewable energy to reduce carbon emissions.
In sanitation, YCD works to improve hygiene and public health through community cleaning exercises, construction of proper waste disposal facilities, and promotion of clean water access. The organization educates communities about the importance of maintaining sanitary environments and proper waste management. By integrating environmental and sanitation efforts, YCD fosters healthier communities and enhances resilience to climate change impacts, contributing to a sustainable and cleaner future.
IYouth for Change and Development (YCD) actively promotes human rights and equality among key populations, including LGBTQ+ individuals and female sex workers (FSWs), by fostering inclusive communities and challenging discrimination. YCD conducts advocacy campaigns to raise awareness about the rights of these groups and educates communities on the importance of equality and non-discrimination. Through safe spaces, peer support networks, and workshops, the organization empowers marginalized individuals to understand and advocate for their rights. YCD also collaborates with stakeholders, including healthcare providers, policymakers, and community leaders, to ensure access to essential services, legal protections, and opportunities. By addressing stigma and promoting acceptance, YCD works to create a society where everyone, regardless of their identity or occupation, is treated with dignity and respect.
Youth for Change and Development (YCD) is a registered youth-led organization based in Malawi whose headquarters is in the country’s northern region city of Mzuzu. YCD was founded in 2022 and got registered in 2023 by the Government of Malawi under the Office of the Registra of Companies. The organization is also registered with the Ministry of Youth and Sports through the District Youth Office.

YCD is dedicated to empowering young people and fostering social change. Its core activities revolve around community engagement,in areas of Education, Health, Environment, Leadership development, and Advocacy for youth rights and opportunities. YCD focuses on creating platforms for youth to engage in decision-making, promote sustainable development, and address local and global challenges.

Core activities include:

Youth Leadership Training: Offering programs to develop leadership, critical thinking, and social responsibility.

YCD employs a diverse team consisting of approximately staff members, including program managers, community outreach coordinators, finance officers, and administrative support. In addition, the organization benefits from a network of volunteers and interns who contribute to specific projects.

Capacity Building
Youth for Change and Development (YCD) focuses on capacity building by equipping young people and communities with the skills, knowledge, and tools needed to drive sustainable development and social change. The organization offers tailored training programs on leadership, entrepreneurship, advocacy, and project management, empowering youth to take active roles in decision-making and community development. YCD also works with local organizations, schools, and community groups to strengthen their abilities to address pressing social issues. Through mentorship, skill-sharing workshops, and access to resources, YCD ensures that individuals and groups are empowered to lead initiatives, implement effective solutions, and contribute meaningfully to societal progress.
Community SRHr session
Youth for Change and Development (YCD) actively promotes Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) in communities by empowering young people with knowledge, resources, and platforms to advocate for their health and well-being. The organization conducts comprehensive education workshops and peer-led sessions to raise awareness about SRHR, including topics like safe sex, reproductive rights, menstrual health, and gender equality. YCD collaborates with local health providers to improve access to youth-friendly services, including counseling, contraception, and reproductive healthcare. By engaging communities through advocacy campaigns, dialogues, and partnerships, YCD challenges stigma, combats gender-based violence, and fosters environments where youth can make informed decisions about their bodies and futures.
